Abhiash otherwise better known as Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek’s wedding dhoom dhamaka has got India and the Indian diaspora fairly interested in the affair. Why even China’s People’s Daily Online to UK’s Hello and other newspapers like the London Times have published articles about this ”great Indian wedding.”
But much to our chagrin or disappointment the entire three day dhoom dhamaka is a pretty closed affair and all we are rewarded is a glimpse here, or a darshan there of the bride or the groom or the small group of people that have been invited for the wedding. The media rights for the wedding have been assigned to some international media company whose name remains unknown to the rest of the world. I guess we will find out when that magazine with the splashy pictures hit the newstand.
So in the meantime the media has gathered tidbits about the wedding like Nita Lulla has designed Ash’s saree, and that the mehendi came from an organic farm in Rajasthan and that Karan Johar choreographed the song and dance routine and that Kirron Kher danced to an Omkara tune etc. etc. Oh, and don’t forget that white Mercedes Benz car that ferried Abhishek and his sister to one of the ceremonies.
Today is the D-day when the pair dubbed as Bollywood’s hottest pair tie the knot. Since I am stuck here in New York without any desi TV channel…I went looking for some video clips and guess what there is no dearth of them video clips.
You know what I like? I like the fact that the media is playing both sides of the game. On the one hand they have this video clip that asks if people or the aam janta really cares about the wedding? Hello! After whipping up a media frenzy what do you expect the aam janta to do? Watch this clip and decide for yourself.
And then there is the clip from the same TV station covering the sangeeth ceremony.
By the way I have also see Abhiwarya mentioned by a couple of media outlets. I am not sure if that phrase or name as a right ring to it. It did not work for me.
