Bangalore is fast-emerging as a hub for wireless and mobile value added services’s startup companies. I recently caught up with Rajiv Poddar of Sedna Wireless to find out how and why he started his company. Doing startups in India provides some interesting challenges. Recruiting the right kind of person to work is not an an easy task either. I also wanted to find out from Rajiv the connection between getting married and working in startups, since there seems to be an interesting link.

Sedna Wireless is an early-stage startup working on a WiFi device called ThinFone, a phone and music player packed into a small portable device, designed for the needs of Indian users. Rajiv is a wireless industry professional with roughly a decade of experience. He is a telecommunication graduate from R. E. C. Silchar (now NITS), and prior to founding Sedna he worked with Tata Consultancy Services and Lucent Technologies India. Rajiv also co-organizes the Mobile Monday Bangalore chapter.

  1. Hi Kamla,
I enjoyed the part where Rajiv talks about “Marriage” and it is true…I have asked the same question to many people and many don’t prefer working in a startup because “They wanted to get married” :)

Other point is “People don’t understand the difference between an established startup and a new one(like Sedna)” since,in Bangalore startups pay lot more than big companies but they are all well funded or either from the Silicon Valley.

In fact,it is a cooincidence that I also wrote a post having the same context on my blog http://thoughtsprevail.blogspot.com/2007/08/what-before-business-plan.html

On the whole a nice interview..good one :)

  2. Thanks Himanshu for your input and pointing to your blog post.

I discovered the connection between marriage and startups a couple of months ago in Bangalore and was quite intrigued by it!

    Stay tuned for more videos…

    Thanks,

    Kamla
