Global Study on Air Quality and Water -Delhi and Mumbai Rank Low
By Kamla Bhatt • Feb 28th, 2008Category: Bombay/Mumbai, India, New Delhi
I guess this should not come as a surprise that both Delhi and Mumbai rank pretty low in a global survey when it comes to the quality of air and water. These are two key, free natural resources (dunno if water is still considered that) that are important when it comes to quality of life.
According to this Financial Times article that highlights the global study on air and water quality:
“…on air quality alone, Mumbai and New Delhi also came equal bottom, below Jakarta, Cairo, Hong Kong and Shenzhen.”
The study was conducted by Mastercard and it looked at data for 21 cities in Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa writes the FT.
I wonder if any policy makers in India are paying attention to this report? Will anything be done to improve the quality of these two key ingredients that help support our lives? Many people in these two ciites don’t have access to potable water and that is the first thing that needs to be addressed and fixed. In case we have forgotten…anyone remember the torrential rains in Mumbai in 2005/2006 and the health crisis that it created? Anyone remember that every year during the famous Mumbai monsoons the quality of water is compromised quite a bit?
