MSN ’s Response To Plagiarized Content

Last night I came across a post that said MSN’s content partner India Syndicate posted plagiarized content. Melanie Phung of All About Content wrote in her blog post:
“My recent post on Viagra’s anniversary happens to rank well for a search on that phrase, but so does an article posted on MSN India.
This piece, “written” by Aditya Mehta and syndicated through India Syndicate blatantly rips off my post’s funniest line (on what SEOHack calls myonly decentbest post on this blog). The one word difference (the use of a second “please” at the beginning of the last sentence) is due to my having gone back a day later and editing it out of my post because it was redundant… something Aditya Mehta apparently didn’t catch.”
I emailed Krishna Prasad, Executive Producer of MSN India and here is his response about the plagiarized content.
KB: How and when did you become aware of the plagiarized content from Melanie Phung’s site: http://www.all-about-content.com/2008/04/msn-india-syndicates-plagiarized.html
KP: I actually got to know about this only thru your mail to me.
KB: Has MSN India or India Syndicate reached to Melanie Phung about this?
KP: We have still not reached out to Melanie as yet, we will reach out to her soon on our response.
KB:How does MSN India handle cases of plagiarized content on its site?
KP: MSN India syndicates content from a host of content providers and content creators, This is the first time that we have had a complaint on this issue. While our contract with our vendors clearly mention this I guess it is important for to give maximum importance to this subject and build in checks and measures. As said earlier, we are working thru this and as we close our investigation; we plan to address next steps and also ways and means to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
KB: Is there an established procedure for reporting plagiarized content on MSN India? If so, what is the procedure?
KP: There is always a email the editor; customer service links available on our site. And we will keep those channels open.
KB: Is there anything else you would like to add?
KP: We have taken action on removing the content first and if required we will reach out to the content owner to solve this. We are very sensitive about this and assured we will take serious and strict action.
