BBC Interview: Twittering Around The World

Last week I got an opportunity to talk to Chris Vallance of BBC about twitter, a free social media messaging utility, and how twitter is used in virtual India. In virtual India technology erases geographical barriers. From what I can see and from my conversations with Nikhil Pahwa at ContentSutra twittering has started to take off in virtual India. Typically folks in virtual India tend to tech-savvy and are open to trying new apps and widgets. I suspect the sample size of early adopters of twitter is fairly small in virtual India for the moment, but might see an increase later this year.
It is interesting to see how much you can manage to pack within that 140 characters limit or digital haiku as someone put it. For me twittering is like a digital umbilical cord to India, and is a great way to find out what is happening in various parts of India. I was pleasantly surprised to see that IBNLive has a twitter feed!
Corporations, big and small, have jumped into the twitter bandwagon, and some of them like Zappos, an online shoe shopping store, are making great use of twitter to reach out to their customers.
You can listen to the BBC interview about twittering around the world.
