This year’s Tiffin Cup award goes to Mint & Mustard headed by chef Anand Joseph George. This award is for the Best South Asian restaurant in UK. George won the award for his dish, which was a pan seared seabass fillets on a bed of potato and curry leaf mash, with a sauce of raw mangoes, ginger and coconut milk.
Mint & Mustard is located in Cardiff, Wales.
What is the Tiffin Cup and Tiffin Club?
It is annual curry competition held in the UK that also raises money for South Asian charities.
Here is how British Member of Parliament Mike Penning describes it:
“The Tiffin Cup is an annual event sponsored by Cobra Beer and organized by a cross-party group of Members of Parliament known as the Tiffin Club. Each MP can nominate one South Asian restaurant from their constituency. From these ten will be short-listed and invited to a special cook-in at Bellamy’s Restaurant where the overall winner will be chosen.”
The money raised from this year’s events is being donated to two charities: Friend of Village Development in Ban Bangladesh and Roko Cancer. Indian charity. The winner gets a year’s supply of Cobra Beer and the Tiffin Cup.
The Tiffin Club was started in November 2005 by Keith Vaz MP, John Barrett MP and Michael Fabricant MP. Members of Parliament who belong to the Tiffin Club nominate a South Asian restaurant from their constituency out of which 10 restaurants are selected. The finalists participate in a grand cook-off and a winner is selected.
Congrats to George for winning this year’s Tiffin Cup. George has just got started and don’t be surprised if he ends up winning other prestigious culinary awards.
