Mumbai Terrorist Attacks: Continuing Roundup
By Kamla Bhatt • Nov 26th, 2008Category: Bombay/Mumbai, India, Web 2.0
Mumbai (
The attacks started late on the evening of November 26th 2008 and has continued on for nearly 2 days now. Mumbai is under siege. The attacks clearly targeted Mumbai’s well-known landmarks like The Taj Hotel, Oberoi and Leopold’s Cafe. The attacks appear to have originated in Nariman Point/Colaba area, which is where all these hotels are located and then gone up to the busy intersection where Victoria Train Station or VT as it was previously known, is located. This is one of the busiest intersections in Mumbai and also home to Mumbai’s Municipal office and the police headquarters. And if you trace the route northwards there appears to be no attack in the Crawford and
Mumbai is home to about 17 million people and is one of the largest cities in

I sincerely hope that this hour of darkness can bring all Indians, Hindus, Muslims, Bihari or Mumbiakar together .
This is not something which should divide us.All of us know that there are a lot of lessons to be learnt, but what what comes foremost for us to understand that this is AN ATTACK.Trained military personnel have come from Pakistan(they might call them terrorists).
Just remember AN ATTACK on India should not be taken lightly. We have to do whatever is necessary to severly punish all those who were at any stage connected with this attack.
Any terrorist reading this please note INDIA IS STRONGER THAN YOU.
This is really horrible! I saw a building on fire this morning while watching CNN but I had no Idea it was INDIA!!!! I just found out, and it is really shocking..I just don’t understand what people get from causing so much destruction where there is peace…killing so many people, and wounding others..!!! Its honestly disgusting!!! I just pray the remaining ones come out safely and all are protected from these kind of nut cases!!! I also hope the whole india keep their faith and hold on to each other’s hand during this time of crisis!! I might not be indian and all but I love india and this is humanity people c’mon!!! what’s happening to this world!?!?!?!
May God be with you all!!..
And good luck….
Here is my Hypothesis of how the Mumbai terrorist attack was made possible:
The Pakistan Marine Agency has been kidnapping and capturing Indian fishing vessels for the last 5 years. Look at this news link:
http://www.hvk.org/articles/0603/176.html
Pakistan then puts these kidnapped fishermen into jail and periodically decides to either release them or to keep them languishing in jail depending on whether it wants to take favors from India to release its citizens languishing in Indian jails for much more heinous crimes.
The Indian government has done nothing, zilch, nada in the last many years to take care of the above situation.
The terrorists apparently took this situation a step further. They took the help of the Pakistan Marine Agency to kill/kidnap and hijack an Indian fishing trawler. Next they loaded up the vessel with explosives and grenades manufactured in Pakistani factories. Finally they entered Mumbai (with all their prior research and review of the cities famous landmarks and their floor plans) and launched these attacks.
Conclusion: The above goes to show that there are several factors leading to this tragedy:
1) the lackadaisical attitude of the government in dealing firmly with Pakistan
2) the apathy of Indian citizens who were happy to be tolerant and look the other way
3) the absence of policing security and law system that protects the citizenry proactively
4) the lack of political will to impose strong laws – the Congress is a leader on this
5) the willingness to negotiate with terrorists – the BJP created a horrible precedent during the Indian
Airlines hijacking incident few years ago
6) the lack of cool self-assessment of what India’s strengths and weaknesses are in the security and law/order area
7) opening up of borders with Pakistan – a country that is predominantly lawless and where the government only pretends to govern. We have spent too much time trying to build a relationship with a government that cannot control its internal environment
ignoring the dangers posed by allowing Pakistanis to enter Indian territory by air, land and water without realizing the dangers it would pose to Indian lives
9) constant interference in the functioning of the defence forces by the Indian government
10) not investing in intelligence, security and training that is world class to ensure that the police can deal with such incidents
11) agnostic Indian citizen psyche that refuses to get united and is happy in living in denial untill they are not personally attacked
12) a citizenry that does not hold its politicians responsible for their actions.
This is something that has to be highly condemned. ITs a shame for our nation. Its time we stand together and fight this back. I came across a number of videos on the attack in the link below. They are really disturbing and making us feel for our country…
http://www.tajtube.com/watch_video.php?v=42b9409ddca4080
These coverages give us the real picture. If you see the below coverage, we get the feel that the mission to help the hostages has taken longer.
http://www.kanbal.com/index.php?/Newsflash/mumbai-terrorist-attacks.html
We cannot leave this to keep happening. These people will face it one day. The day cannot be too far. As Indians we need to stand together as one to battle the ugly face of terrorism.
I just have one question for all Indians:
Why is our government so dependent on Pakistan government’s opinion and help to protect India against terrorism?
The truth is that our politicians are using strategies that are older than themselves. We look like we are begging Pakistan to cooperate. But honestly what is the point of blaming a country like Pakistan. The United States is well aware that this country is largely lawless. By some estimates more than 50 percent of the country is not under government rule and they run their own parallel governments. Why are we wasting our bandwidth trying to opern our airspace, rail roads and waters to the most dangerous place on earth? Every terrorist incident of significance in the last 5 years has originated in Pakistan. When will we started taking steps to protect ourselves and making our national security world class? Everytime there is an attack our government puts another band-aid on our bleeding wounds and goes back to sleep! Can Mumbai inspire this country out of complacency? Or we destined to be broken up into many countries?
Sincerely,
Amit
according to some reports there are 155 people dead and apparently there are supposed to be 70-80 more at taj. btw i also just heard that there is one terrorist found at the airport who has been captured… one can not be to certain if the calamity is over..
Why is our government so incompetent and clueless to protect India against terrorism?
The truth is that our politicians are using strategies that are older than themselves. We look like we are begging Pakistan to cooperate.
Why did the Govt not take strong security measures inspite of earlier warning

Guys, first things first – All should go and make donations to the National Defence Fund and any other funds that help the Armed Forces. We need to salute the troops and show our appreciation. Kamla-ji, can you lead an awareness campaign to raise funds for the defence forces? Particularly organizations like NSG.
Also, these commandos should NOT be used for safeguarding politicians. Regular police should be used. Why are politicians using the best of the breed for their personal protection? Why this hypocrisy?
One of the things to learn of these terrorist attacks is the giant leap that terrorism has taken towards professionalism. Unfortunately, we will have to learn to live with this.

India’s 9/11 as its being popularly tagged by media has given a jolt to the nation never seen before..I hope this time the people don’t get back to life as usual and don’t give another example of ‘chalta hai’ attitude…
After 9/11 there haven’t been ne terror strike in US inspite of numerous sleeping cells of terrorists which were neutralized subsequently..It was at that moment that HomeLand Security took charge of internal security in US. Can we in India make this moment as tipping point of our own war against teror. Can we now demand from the System the most basic right i.e. the Right to live as enshrined in India’s constitution..Can we now say ‘Enough is Enough’..
There has been an unprecendented outrage against the politicians in which is a sense have been enhanced by insensitive comments and deeds by politicans post Mumbai attacks..Be it Mr R. R. Patil or Nitesh Kumar or Mr Achyutanand, cutting across the party lines politicians are being seen defending the political status quo….”If not ploiticians than will the man in uniform will rule the country” to quote Bihar C.M. Nitesh Kumar shows the angst among politicians..
India being a democratic nation cannot do aways with politicians who in any way will form the upper echelon of governing system in the nation. what can be done along with the help of media is to seek accountability in the system..If there was intelligence failure, or lapse on part of enforcement agencies whether state or central then the person responsible be sought and action be taken howsoever big his stature may be…Common public has a role to play from time of electing a public representative to each and every step they take whether policy formulation or implementation. Democracy in India has to rise from once in a five year ritual, if real change is to be seen in the governing system..
We are a more then billion strong nation and my personal views are that we should be capable to take care of our own mess. Instead of being too kidish so as to ask Pakistan to hand over 21 most wanted persons to India and send ISI DG to India the MEA be more practical in its working. India must itself neutralize the terror threats either overtly or covertly, I hope RAW and IB are sufficiently trained for that..A city of mumbai having population of more than 16 million needs a functioning Counter Terrorism Squad on lines of NSG. ALong with this whole dilapidated system of Police Act-1861, CrPC etc be overhauled. We as people should resist from polarizing a particular community for the deed of handful of fanatics.
I wish that attack on Mumbai don’t end with another round of intellectual debates and reports of government committees. I hope it brings in much sought after CHANGE though after yet another scar on ‘Aamchi Mumbai’ whcih wont go away from conscience of Mumbaikars in particular and Indians in general..
How to Beat The Indian Politician
Section 49-O of the Constitution:
(A Repetition worth a read)
Did you know that there is a system in our Constitution, as per the 1969 Act, in Section “49-O” that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey to the presiding election officer that he doesn’t want to vote anyone!
Yes such a feature is available, but obviously our seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called “49-O”.
Why should you go and say “I VOTE FOR NOBODY”… because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received “49-O” votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them. This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way of our whole political system… it is seemingly surprising why the Election Commission has not revealed such a feature to the public….
Please spread this news to as many as you know… Seems to be a wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India… show your power, expressing your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful than voting… so don’t miss your chance. So either vote, or vote not to vote (vote 49-O) and pass this info on…
“Please forward this mail to as many as possible, so that we, the people of India , can really use this power to save our nation”. Use your voting right for a better INDIA
I bow my head today, not to the terrorists, but to the great sons on India, who inspite of all the political rukkus of localization (read MNS) didnot hesitate to risk or give up their lives.
At the same time, I bow my head in shame at the sheer level of insensitivity shown by Media in covering this attack. Whereas showing the fact to the public is required, the Media also should have enough brains to understand that the while the Indian Public are watching the channels, so are the terrorists in the hotel. There was ABSOLUTELY no need to disclose the strategy of the army, before it was actually used. To this fact, I hold the media responsible for this irresponsible behaviour. Better sense should have prevailed. Also, was there a need to ask the kins of the deceased as well as the surviours scrambling out of the hotels with the most stupid question – “AAP KO KAISA LAG RAHA HAI?”.
I also hang my head in shame to see our politicians using this opportunity to our throw the government and beg for votes.
I also hang my head in shame to see politicians showing no mercy to the families of the deceased – calling the dead valiant as dogs.
The home minister of the country resigns home minister for state resigns chief minister resigns by that logic the Prime minister should resign.
Also the NSG which walked in the following morning were late and come under the direct control of the PM’s office so he should resign.
All this happens and Ministers who have a moral responsibility have to resign. But the Mumbai police commissioner who has direct responsibility of the matter stays put and no one has even asked for his resignation
And Lalu he’s the railway minister right? Well there was a massacre at CST. He didn’t provide adequate security for its commuters how come he hasn’t resigned?
If we are getting rid of honest politicians like Mr RR Patil and Mr. Shivraj Patil
who take responsibility for their actions. Then let the spineless ones follow in
Mumbai, With Sincere Hopes, Thoughts and Humble Prayers
I would like to extend my sincere sympathies and condolences to the bereaved Families and prayers and thoughts to all affected by the brutal attacks in Mumbai
This is totally unfair; innocent Lives being cruelly snatched by perpetrators of such condemnable actions
“When” will the perpetrators of such condemnable actions ever understand that by committing such actions, they are literally committing the very most sinful of actions!
It only leaves one more confused, perplexed and wondering in amazement with so many questions unanswered as to Why, Why and Why are such actions taking place? What do the perpetrators achieve?
Why don’t they realize and understand that the World needs Peace, Love, Progress and Prosperity; that when they first contribute and invest in Peace and Love can they expect to reciprocate likewise, “When” will they ever learn?
Life is extremely Precious and when the perpetrators just take decisions and commit unforgivable actions; they only foster more repulsion and disgust at what they are seeking to demonstrate.
By committing such actions, they are only creating more hatred for themselves primarily; as well as further distancing and surrounding themselves with a vicious circle of further infinite hatred
At this crucial moment, where we stand at the cross roads of doing our very best to comprehend the reasons for these condemnable actions; it is sincerely Hoped that decisive resolutions are identified whereby they are able to facilitate an effective mitigation right from the core roots of these elements, where they emerged.
“Understanding” the core elements relating to this process is one of the strategic and instrumental keys in effectively managing and regulating the process instead of solely combatting since the first process is to establish a platform upon which a firm foundation could be built; the foundation of Universal Hope, Peace, Trust, Love, Peace, Harmony, Progress and Prosperity
It is pursuing an hopeful and practical process; whereby anticipating, innovating and embarking onto pursuing a practical approach for adeptly and resolutely dealing with such type of condemnable actions is being encouraged; Alas what has occurred cannot be recuperated, but the sacrifice that has been made by several innocent victims over the years reminds us and encourages us to stringently identify resolutions that could effectively harness the various factors effectively and implement a resolute approach in dealing / combatting with such condemnable actions decisively and practically.
It is more easily said than done; but every step taken in the direction of seeking to identify each resolution is essential and imminently approaching
Evolution is testament and holds evidential records of various events that have occurred and it is our duty to educate and inspire the concerned to seek to “Recognize” and “Understand” the immense potential value of each and every Life, since Life is extremely Precious and Splendid; and can “NEVER” be snatched away by these type of cowardly actions on any pretext or instance whatsoever.
Each and Everyone has the rightful privilege to Live and cannot become subject to what perpetrators of such condemnable actions think and decide, it is absolutely very wrongful, punishable to the maximum possible extents and unpardonable; (Although the deviation is there when reference is made to referring to the aspect of punishment, it is but natural that when all steps that are taken to make the concerned understand the significance and importance of reality and when they refuse to understand and persistently seek to establish their own agendas, then in such contexts, this is NOT permissible since there has to be Universal Harmony, Peace and Love that is accorded contentious precedence and pre dominance since the Universe provides us and bestows us each and every Moment with the very finest of virtues but when there is an interruption or attempts made by perpetrators to change the course of what is being manifested Universally, then the perpetrators are naturally SUBJECT to pay a price for their irresponsible actions, face the consequences; they need to be accountable and responsible and essentially “Understand” that defying the Universal Principles, The Laws of Nature is having a price that NEEDS to be paid)
It is not only retribution alone, it is fairness where no sides are taken, but what is just and unjust; since Nature never discriminates or favors one over another; but tends to remind and make one aware time and again that it makes one pay for one’s wrong deeds whether now or later; but definitely has its own way of compensating those that have been made to endure and face unfortunate events due to the mindless actions taken by perpetrators; the distinguishing of those that are right and those that are wrong is already being journalized / recorded and will seek accountability accordingly.
I shall summarize the above comments on this note since it is an extensive appeal that consistently seeks to kindle the Hope for establishing Universal Hope, Peace, Trust, Love, Peace, Harmony, Progress and Prosperity; If a reference has been made to certain tendencies that reflect accountability, this is natural, since every action that is taken is linked and bound to result in a reaction; so every action that is taken must be carefully assessed and taken explicitly on the basis of establishing Universal Hope, Peace, Trust, Love, Peace, Harmony, Progress and Prosperity; it is the pursuit of a mutual process and not solely for suiting one’s agenda alone!
With sincere Hopes, Thoughts and Humble Prayers,
Vashi Ram Chandi
Shame, Shame, Shame on the politicians of India! By now there should have been a blistering retalitory strike on Pakistan. What an impotent bunch of morons ruling India, been a week and still nothing.
Very sad for such a gifted people and a beautiful country having such useless worthless individuals sitting at the helm of a nation and doing nothing, but insulting the citizens of India. The politicians haven’t any respect for anyone nor for them selves or for anyone except for emptying the nations coffers and lining their pockets.
My condolences to all that died in vein.
David
Hi All,
I start with deepest sympathies to the brave indian soldiers and army who lost their lives fighting these terror attacks. I also salute all mumbaikars who have undergone such a tragedy.
What’s happening to our nation? I’m not saying the situation was any good before but the way it has happened and handled by our “champion” politicians make me feel ashamed to be an Indian!
Our own “AABA” gives a statement “bade bade deshome CHHOTI CHHOTI bate hoti rehti hain!!!!!” He should be hanged till death – isn’t it a CHHOTI baat to hang just one R.R. Patil????
Our CM takes his Rittesh and Ramu Verma to Taj!! What were they doing? Video shooting a movie??? Or planning for a video shooting set???
Rittesh and Ramu – If you were SOOOOO concerned about people , where the hell were you when people were dying in hospitals? Why don’t you donate your money to people who have suffered???? Hypocrite saale…
Vilasrao – Saale 4 saal me CM banke Paise kha kha ke pet bhar gaya?? Still arrogance on your face while resigning! WOW… you should have been put in Taj when terrarists were firing.. Tab samza hota kutte.
and our own Sardaar PM – your speech.. wow! no one can give a lifeless and spineless speech like you… GAxx me dam hain to Pakistan pe hamla bol, go after the terrorists….. I know you will always try and maintain peace because you yourself know you are an impotent to make anything happen… Saale, tu aur teri family hoti Taj me to kya karta?? Tab kya “condemn” karta kya sirf attack???
Anyway…..
I give up because I know mere chillanese nothing’s going to happen. Thodehi dino me everything will be “chalta hain yaar” – just one more attack – slightly severe this time…
When are we going to come together? Are we just going to “condemn” the attacks everytime??? or really do something about it? and if yes, when???? when every city in India is bombed by terrorists? after such CHHOTI CHHOTI baate happen in every city?????
Hi People,
The mumbai tragedy is very unfortunate. But instead of criticing the government why not we indians do something about it? I have tried highlighting some of the positives which came out of Mumabi attacks on my blog.
http://nishantbansal123.blogspot.com/
Being defensive never works, it basically means you will always be on the receiving end of things. If you are lucky you go unscared else you get hurt….either ways the other guy goes unpunished. We have to get proactive at this. Just perking up our defenses is not gonna help.We have to go behind them like the US did, and fight them on their soil instead of ours
We should at least give a strong message to them, but thats asking too much out of a weak Prime minister.
Our own “AABA” or R.R. Patil is the toughest and the most upright home minister that we have had.Now that Chaggan Bhujbal is in office you will know what I am talking about. If Aaba couldn’t do the job, rest assure there is no minister in India who can.The state government couldn’t have prevented the attack, it was the responsibility of the Navy and the Coastguard. Also war may not be an option,or shouldn’t be one too, but at least do something. India has a far superior navy, blockade them for a day they should get the message
Our CM no sympathies for him though, looks corrupt to me at least. However our press needs to get a spine. If we only think clearly for a moment we will realize the only people who were making a movie out of it was the press itself. They weren’t sympathizing but just profiting out of it. Theres a new breed of politicians in India, and its called the Press.
I’m not saying that Pakistan and the ISI are involved or that they aren’t, but reporting such a thing prematurely without any investigation is wrong. It puts the government under pressure to things that they have to do to look good in the eyes of the people, irrespective of anyones involvement.
Do it, be decisive about it but after things are clear.
Our country is in a state of lawlessness. Our leaders are completely lawless. They have different rules applicable for all of them. Thats the only reason why our intelligence agencies are weak at their job. Our leaders are not interested in security of the country. Our intelligence have no guru. they are spineless.
A few jokers like shivraj patil, RR patil, Vilasrao Deshmukh, have been shown the door. But our system is so rotten and stinking that you will belive that all apples in the basket are indeed full of worms. Like someone said of the resignations” if one clown goes, comes in another”
No use blaming the press who for the first time did the most magnificent job of their life since India won independence. Our lawless leaders are taking us to the gutter of death and that should be our only worry.

War with Pakistan is the dream of fools. War will bring our rising economy to its knees. Pakistan has no economy. Its economy is its rabid belief of its religions interpretation. What we need is for our leaders to be interested in our intelligence just like how they are interested to make money out of every opportunity. They should show the same interest in intelligence activities. We need to destabilise Pakistan and try to split that country. We need a proxy war without resorting to harming Pakistani civilians. We dont need a full fledged war becasue thats exactly what Pakistan’s un-employed army and its diseased commanders want. We will play staright into their hands. Proxy is the word.
