Right after I hit the publish button for my previous post about Burger King’s ad snafu in Spain, I received this brief official statement from Burger King about their advertisement campaign in Spain.
Burger King Corporation (BKC) values and respects all of its guests as well as the communities we serve. This in-store advertisement was running to support a limited-time only local promotion for three restaurants in Spain and was not intended to offend anyone. Out of respect for the Hindu community, the in-store advertisement has been removed from the restaurants.
To my question if their advertising agency Cripsin, Porter and Bogusky was involved in the campaign in Spain, I got this reply:
It was produced by a locally-based Spain agency and not by BKC’s U.S. advertising agency of record, Crispin Porter and Bogusky.
Update: I asked Burger King’s PR folks if they had responded to the Hindu Community leader’s call for an apology.
Burger King’s response: “We have not received a formal letter from the Hindu community leaders.”
