Sounds of Bangalore

When Mona Webber, a die-hard Bangalorean, moved to Kuwait a few years ago she missed that familiar symphony of “Sounds of Bangalore.” She fixed that void in her life by recording the sounds of Bangalore and playing it every morning, and this ritual made her feel right at home in Kuwait.
While I connected with what Mona had to say about the utter silence that greeted her every waking hour in Kuwait, I wish I had thought of a similar idea to break the “silence” that pervades our lifestyle in the US of A. It is a funny thing you know this “Sounds of Banglaore,” – I am conflicted about it.
When I am in Bangalore I crave for some quiet, and when I am back in the US of A I crave for the “Sounds of Banglaore” that starts with the birds chirping, the door bell ringing, the newspaperwallah, the maid, the cablewallah, the milkman, the vegetable seller, the corner store guy, the neighbor and the list goes on and on. And then there are the sounds that are there in the background like cars honking, loud voices, vendors etc. ect. So, until my next trip to Bangalore, I shall be reduced to playing this video of “Sounds of Bangalore” to break this hermetically sealed existence in the US of A.
