Earlier today, George Zacharias unveiled two new initiatives for Yahoo! India users. The first is that Yahoo! India portal is available in seven regional languages like Hindi, Tamil, The second is that Yahoo! Messenger 8.0 now allows users to chat in 9 Indian languages - Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi and Gujarati. By downloading a plugin users can chat in any one of the regional languages. Through these two initiatives Yahoo! India plans to add relevance to the next 300 million Internet users in India. George believes that this growth will happen in the next few years.
In this interview George talks about the two new initiatives, the growth of Internet users in India, Yahoo’s India strategy and Yahoo’s mobile strategy in India.
George joined Yahoo! India in 2006. Prior to that he was with Sify and Madura Coats.
