“The IT Industry is doing something to this country and the country has never experienced before. And that is the immense economic growth and opportunity,” says Kentaro Toyama, Assistant Managing Director of Microsoft Research (MSR) India in Bangalore.
In emerging markets mobile phones is probably the second or third electric appliance that people will own he points out. We talk to Kentaro about technology and mobile phones and how technology and the IT industry is perceived in India. MSR’s research on India reveals some fascinating aspects and dimensions about the Indian user.
MSR India lab was established in 2005 and currently has about 50 people working there in different fields that fall under six broad categories. They are: technology for emerging markets; rigorous software engineering;multilingual systems; mobility, networks and systems; digital geographics, and cryptography, algorithms and security.
Kamla Bhatt is the host and producer of an Internet Radio show where listeners can find stories about the new and emerging India and the global Indian community. As a pioneer of 'internet radio' format in India Kamla started her first show News about India, followed by TalkNewsIndia in 2005. In 2006 she premiered her new show: The Kamla Bhatt Show: Life, People and Ideas.
