Naresh Gupta is Managing Director of Adobe India. Naresh occupies a pretty interesting space at Adobe. At one level Naresh is in charge of Adobe’s print and publishing portfolio, which is how Adobe started its business about 25 years ago. At another level he heads Abode’s R&D centers in India, China, Japan and Romania, which allows him to get a very clear overview of what is happening in emerging countries.
I met Naresh at Adobe’s global headquarters in downtown San Jose, California. In this interview we cover a wide range of topics including his role at Adobe India, the global R&D Center, globalization, emerging markets, time management, his mentors and what his aspiration was growing up in Lucknow, India.
Naresh had some pretty interesting and telling observations about opportunities in emerging countries. For instance, his observation that sitting in Silicon Valley you don’t get a sense of what is happening in emerging countries struck a chord in me. He points out correctly there is a lot happening in these countries from a business, consumer and developer perspective. Consider this: currently 50 percent of Adobe’s revenue comes from outside the USA, and that less than 5 percent of its revenue is from emerging markets. He added there are huge business opportunities in emerging countries like India, China and other and Adobe plans to increase its revenue share from these countries to 15-20 percent in the next few years.
An interesting aspect of the interview was this whole notion of globalization and how people like Naresh are making it happen by working on different time-zones and constantly flying around the world. Does this not take a toll on him? How does he manage to do this? Tune it to find out.
You can also watch a short video clip where Naresh talks about Adobe’s pilot program on embedding ads in pdf documents.

hi kamla ,
we could not able to listen with the new player there is some with it .Please check it.
With the old player we are able to listen properly. But now we could not able to listen and some of the URLS are also not working properly.
I tried several times in the past two weeks.
One question I would have asked him was why flash did not make it into the iPhone!
Sid:
I think I asked him about that off-line. That is a question I should ask Shantanu.
Are they not working on that deal now?
Thanks for listening and writing in.
