Vivek Paul of TPGVivek Paul is partner at TPG, a private equity company that is ranked as one of top PE firms in the world. According to Hoover TPG holdings include stakes in Notable Neiman Marcus (high end department store) Ducati (Italian motorcycle company) Lenovo and SunGard Data Systems among others.

Vivek has been consistently rated as one of the top executives by various business magazines in the last few years including Time and Forbes among others.

I caught up with Vivek at this year’s TiECon in Santa Clara, where he was a featured speaker. In this conversation we get to hear a little bit about Vivek on where he grew up and studied, and how he joined the corporate world and worked at Pepsi and GE and transitioned to head Wipro, which is a top-tier IT company headquartered in Bangalore.

We also talked about mentors, mentoring and inspiration. Vivek shares an interesting anecdote about an elephant trainer near Bangalore and how that story helped him to look at opportunities and trying to achieve goals from a new and different perspective. He also shares on what book and magazines are on his reading list and what reading materials he carries with him on his travels around the world.

He sits on the board of Silicon Valley-based Electronic Arts.

Vivek has an undergraduate degree from BITS Pilani, and a management degree of University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
