Filmmaker Richard Linklater talks about the making of his new film The Last Flag Flying. The film is about 3 friends played by Steve Carell, Laurence Fishburne & Bryan Cranston and the impact of Vietnam and Iraq war on them. Is this a war film or a film about 3 middle-aged friends? What drew him to make this film that the Economist described as “muddled politics of war? How is this Linklater’s kind of war film?

We also spoke about Linklater’s passion for making films and how the Soviet filmmaker Andre Tarkovsky influenced his filmmaking style.And, we also found out about Linklater’s family connection to the San Francisco Bay area.
