Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) talks about his new film “Candy Store.” The film is about Ukraine and he started to write the story over 4 years ago in collaboration with …., his friend. They have closed funding for the film that will star Ryan Gosling, Keira Knightley and others.
I met Gaghan at the 57th San Francisco International Film Festival just after he had won the Kanbar Award for writing. He spent an hour talking about films, soccer, surfing, books, typewriters, India, Steven Soderberg, America’s drug policy, the making of “Syriana” and The Paris Review. He sits on the board of The Paris Review.
“I am loquacious,” he warned us just before we got the camera rolling. The result is an a lost got an hour long interview with him that we will share in multiple episodes.
Gaghan won an Oscar for writing the screenplay of “Traffic” and went on to write and direct “Syriana,” a complex geopolitical thriller. He lives in Los Angeles with his family.
