Video: Marty Cooper Makes The First Mobile Call on April 3, 1973

Martin (Marty) Cooper made the first phone call from a cell on April 3, 1973 in New York. And he made the first mobile or cell call to Joel Engel of Bell Labs, whose team was working on a similar project. Do you want to  guess how heavy that first mobile phone was? It was 2.5 pounds and is half a pound more than the weight of new MacBook (2015).

We caught up with Cooper a couple of years ago at the Cinequest film festival to talk about that first cell phone. When I asked hime about being the “Father of Cell Phone,” he responded that it was just not him, but the entire team that worked on this project that has revolutionized our lives today.

We have a longer interview that is yet to be published.
