There are 14 Californians in this year’s World’s 100 Most Powerful Women published by Forbes. Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook is ranked 8th in the list with Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube in the 9th position.
Other Californians in the list include Meg Whitman, CEO of HP, Angela Ahrendts, Senior VP of Apple, Safra Catz, Co-CEO of Oracle, Oprah Winfrey (that is is right Winfrey now lives in California), Ruth Porat, CFO of Goggle, Lauren Powell Jobs, Dana Walden, CEO of Fox Television Group, Marissa Meyer of Yahoo!, Dana Langley, CEO of Universal Pictures, Arianna Huffington of Huffington Post, Gwynne Shotwell of SpaceX and Mary Meeker of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos, who was in the list last year is dropped from this year’s list.
Topping the list of 100 Most Powerful Women is German Chancellor Angela Merkel. This is the 6th year in a row Merkel has topped this list. Hillary Clinton is second on the list followed by Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen.
The entertainment category is dropped from this year’s list and more emphasis was put on women leaders especially in politics. The United States tops this year’s list with 51 women represented, followed by China. There are 4 women represented by India out of which 2 of them are from the banking sector, 1 from media and 1 from biotech.
