VIDEO: STEVE JOBS BY DANNY BOYLE

Finally, it is here – the first full length trailer of Steve Jobs by director Danny Boyle. Michael Fassbinder essays the role of Jobs, and he is practically unrecognizible. Seth Rogen plays Steve Wozniak, co-founder and the tech wizard of Apple. The film is based on Walter Isaacson’s book Steve Jobs. The book was blessed by Jobs, who colloborated quite a bit with Isaacson when he was writing the book.

The trailer is past-paced with snappy dialogs with a definite edge to them.  I suspect the film will be a fast paced narrative since the script is written by Aaron Sorkin. Remember Sorkin’s script for Social Network, the film on how Mark Zukerberg built Facebook, while he was a student at Harvard.

The film stars Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, marketing chief of MacIntosh and Jeff Daniels as John Sculley, former CEO of Apple, whom Jobs recruited from Pepsi-cola and brought him over to Apple. And Sculley then went to ease Jobs out of Apple, who then went to establish NeXT computers and become involved with Pixar.

Steve Jobs releases Oct 9, 2015 in the US. That is when the buzz for Oscar 2016 starts to ramp up and it will be interesting to see how the film turns out and if it gets nominated for the Oscars. Boyle’s last film Slumdog Millionaire won a handful of Oscars.

FIRST LOOK AT STEVE JOBS BY DANNY BOYLE

Here is our first look at Danny Boyle’s new film on “Steve Jobs.” Written by Aaron Sorkin, the film stars Micahel Fassbender, Seth Rogen, Kate Winslet, Jeff Daniels and others. Earlier this year Boyle and his crew spent a couple of months in various parts of San Francisco bay area shooting their film.

The film is slated to release on October 9, 2015.

Academy Award winner Danny Boyle of “Slumdog Millionaire,” is busy directing his latest movie in San Francisco bay area. And the new biopic is about Silicon Valley icon Steve Jobs.

The shooting of the film started in the beginning of the year. The cast and crew has spent time filming in San Francisco and in locations around South bay. The crew spent time in February shooting in and around De Anza College in Cupertino. Jobs’ mother and sister worked at De Anza College at one time if I recollect correctly.

Last year Universal Pictures announced it was producing the film after Sony Pictures withdrew from the project. The film is  based on Walter Isaacson’s book and Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay. Michael Fassbender plays Steve Jobs and Seth Rogen the part of Steve Wozniak. The cast includes Kate Winslet, Katherine Waterston, and Jeff Daniels among others.

You can check out the official Facebook page of the Steve Jobs film for updates and photos. The film is expected to release on October 9, 2015.

Boyle’s last film was “Slumdog Millionaire,” which won a string of Academy Awards. I got an opportunity to interview Boyle on the eve of the Oscar ceremony, where we spoke about the making of “Slumdog Millionaire,” and the influence of his mother.

LISTEN: Academy Award Winner AR Rahman On His Musical Journey Part-2

AR Rahman

AR Rahman

In February 2009 I spoke to AR Rahman or AR as he prefers to be called about his musical journey and how it all started in his hometown of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. We spoke on the eve of his big Academy Award night for Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire.” AR won 2 Oscars, and the film won the best picture award.

An intensely private person AR prefers to sit huddled in his music studio rather than talk to the media.  But, with the sudden and unexpected success of Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire” AR found himself in the media spotlight, especially international media.

In Part-2 of our conversation AR talks about this musical journey that began when he was in high school. It all started in Kodambakkam, the epicenter of Chennai, (then Madras) of South Indian film industry. His mother played a pivotal role in shaping his career. Continue reading
